← Carols In The Park: Photos Local Action Team meeting: Wed 2 March →The award-winning BYO String Ensemble, conducted by Andrew Sherwood, is coming to play at St Luke’s Church on Saturday 12 December, at 7.30pm.The ensemble features the finest young violin, viola and cello players in the city. It is made up of advanced players from the Brighton Youth Orchestra, run by Brighton & Hove Music & Arts. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, the Japanese Embassy, and the Brighton Dome as part of the Brighton Festival.
Their programme this Saturday features Purcell, Milford, Tavener, Dvorak and Panufnik. See full programme here. There will also be a new work – Girl At The Airport – composed by guitarist Richard Durrant. Richard, who is now well know as one of the foremost classical and pop guitarists in the country, is from Shoreham and began his musical career with the BYO.
Soloist Fred Lawton (guitar) is from Manchester. He switched to classical guitar while studying Popular Music & Jazz at the Royal College of Music. Despite coming to the instrument late, Fred has quickly established himself as a player with a rare understanding and ability to project and display a sound which shows the colours of the instrument freely. Fred has recently performed as a soloist at The Greenwich Guitar Festival, Stoke-on-Trent’s Victoria Hall and Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.
This concert is part of the regular Music & Wine concert series at St Luke’s, under the direction of Rachel Fryer.
Guest are invited to enjoy a special meal offer from The Independent pub (formerly the Walmer Castle) on Queens Park Road. See full details here.
