Fresh Sussex Vegetables On Our Dootstep
Pepperpot locals will have noticed the colourful open-air farm shop that appears on Queens Park Road every Saturday. Here is an introduction to this welcome innovation.
A friend writes: “I just wanted to commend to you the fabulous new mobile farm shop up by the Pepperpot at the top of Islingword Road that’s owned and run by a good mate and former neighbour of mine, Ed Johnstone, who used to run the Cyclist in Brighton station.

“Ed has converted an old horse box into a wonderful mobile shop in which he sells fruit, veg, fish, meat, bread, eggs, cheese, jams and chutneys and so on, every single item of which comes from Sussex. The quality is amazing and only this weekend I bought some wonderful apples, tomatoes, plums, apricots and beans, all of which were picked the day before, plus some fresh bread and excellent locally reared and produced hamburgers plus some proper local bacon too.
“He sets up at the base of the Pepperpot every Saturday from 10am to 3pm and it makes a great alternative to the open market and the bloody supermarkets (and the quality is way higher) and if you fancy going a bit further, you can find him by the Chimney House pub in Upper Hamilton Road 10am to 3pm on a Sunday.”
