A message from Johnny Webb, Chair, Friends of Queens Park (right): “One of the silver linings of the last nine months has been a renewed appreciation of the community spirit and beautiful natural spaces we share in Queens Park.
“We need new members to join the Friends of Queens Park to ensure the park gets the attention and resources it needs to continue to be an attractive and vibrant space for the whole community. This is especially true this year as several members of the current committee, myself included, are stepping down.
“The Friends of Queens Park stage popular community events including Carols In The Park and Bark in the Park. Picnic in the Park has not been held for two years, but it is our fond wish to see it revived.
The Friends act as a bridge between the Council Parks Team and the community, and we undertake specific tasks like maintaining the pond and arranging volunteer events. People join for lots of reasons: to enhance bioverstity, get involved in the social events or simply to meet new people. Whatever the reason, everyone is welcome.
It’s a good time to be joining the Friends. We have detailed plans to upgrade many areas of the park after years of planning and consultation, there are funds availble to help initiate projects, and the park has never been so important to the wellbeing of the community.”
